Job Shadow

Job Shadow Day

November 4, 2011

&

February 3, 2012

Business Registration

Last year, 34 Maine employers of all sizes hosted 611 Maine students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade for a morning of job shadowing. We need your help to respond positively to all of the teachers and students who are anticipating this opportunity on November 4th, 2011 &  February 3th, 2012.

A typical scenario for the morning of Job Shadow Day
1. An assigned class (18 – 23 students on average) and teacher will arrive at place of business by school bus at approximately 9:00 A.M
2. Your workplace coordinator and a senior manager will greet the class, provide opening remarks and link two students with each employee (workplace host)
3. The students observe/shadow the workplace host at work. An “in-box” worksheet will be provided for the workplace hosts to assist them in the plan for the morning.
4. Around noon (lunchtime), all students and as many hosts as practical will reconvene, be treated to pizza (or another type of simple lunch) provided by the business, followed by a debriefing.
5. Students and teachers board the bus between 12:30 and 1 P.M. and students return to school

Please note: This Job Shadow Day event is for business organizations that can accommodate a full class and have enough work place hosts participating so that each has 2-3 student shadows.
Unfortunately we cannot place individual students. Once your business registers, a JA Job Shadow Site Coordinator Guide will be sent to you.
Please call Michelle Anderson with any questions 347-4333 or e-mail manderson@jamaine.org

* Students may be photographed or filmed for marketing purposes
