<p><strong>Portland, Maine – </strong>In an effort to encourage Maine students to strive for success, increase their competitiveness, and gain a better understanding of jobs in the community, Junior Achievement of Maine will be launching its Job Shadow 2012 program on Friday February 3<sup>rd</sup>. </p>
<p>Maine students in the 6<sup>th</sup>, 7<sup>th</sup> and 8<sup>th </sup>grade will shadow mentors in businesses across the state. Job Shadow Day is part of a nationwide initiative that enables students to get an up-close look at the different career opportunities available to them when they are ready to enter the workforce.</p>
<p>Job Shadow Day is designed to give students an opportunity to bridge classroom lessons with career exploration. JA’s main goal for this event is to encourage mentors to host a class at their place of work. Businesses take an active part in introducing Maine students to the business community and demonstrating how the skills learned in school are put into action. We are expecting approximately 800 Maine students to participate. Junior Achievement of Maine is coordinating a record number of mentors throughout the state of Maine. Participating businesses include:</p>

<p>Junior Achievement of Maine is a local non profit organization dedicated to educating students in grades K-12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. <p><strong>Portland</strong><strong>, ME</strong> – Since 1990, Junior Achievement of Maine’s Business Hall of Fame has honored the state’s most distinguished businessmen and women for their outstanding contributions to free enterprise and the promise of a better, stronger society.  For 2012, three exceptional business leaders have been welcomed as laureates into the Junior Achievement of Maine Business Hall of Fame in an induction ceremony that will take place at 5:30pm on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Marriott Sable Oaks in South Portland. </p>
<p>The Junior Achievement of Maine Business Hall of Fame laureates for 2012 include: <strong>Tim Hussey, CEO of Hussey Seating, John Fitzsimmons, President of the Maine Community College System, and Fred Pape Jr., Chairman of Pape Management Company.</strong></p>
<p>These three honorees join a distinguished group of 62 men and women who have been inducted into the Junior Achievement of Maine Business Hall of Fame.</p>
<p><em>Junior Achievement of Maine is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating students in grades K-12 about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness through experiential, hands-on programs. In partnership with business and educator, JA brings the real world to Maine students, opening their minds to their potential and preparing them for the world of work. National studies confirm that Junior Achievement succeeds in affecting students’ lives, helps them to make better life choices and gain a greater comprehension of economic principals.  The purpose of Junior Achievement of Maine is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.  This year, JA will reach almost 9,000 Maine students, and 9 million students worldwide, in more than 100 countries.</em></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Maine, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Stone to the position of President, effective November 28, 2011. Mike comes to JA after a 35 year Maine banking and business background. He has been a volunteer with JA for the past ten years as chair of the JA Hall of Fame Selection Committee and classroom volunteer instructor. Mike also comes to JA with a strong nonprofit background, most recently serving as President of the Board of the Victoria Mansion (A National Historic House Museum) and has volunteered with several Greater Portland nonprofit organizations over the years. Mike is a Greater Portland native and a graduate of the University of Southern Maine with a BS degree in Business and is a graduate of the New England School of Banking at Williams College where he also served on the Board and as an instructor.</p>
